I was sitting and thinking what to share with you guys now, so I came up with some web info that might be useful for you, well it is off-topic from our site theme but I thought worth to share.
Building a website for your small business is just like constructing a boutique shop. Let's learn about successful brands and how to translate those punchlines into your personal success.

Have you heard of George Matthew Adams? He was an American columnist at the turn of the last century. His inspired posts sent waves of encouragement rippling through the masses until his death in 1962. Listen to this:
"Every one of us, unconsciously, works out a personal philosophy of life, by which we are guided, inspired, and corrected, as time goes on. It is defined in the conversation, in the look of the eye, and in the general mien of the person. It has no hiding place. It's like the perfume of the flower unseen, but known almost instantly."

Think about your favorite brick-and-mortar clothing store. Why do you keep going back? To draw on Adams' quote, every company has a "life philosophy" a unique scent that emerges from the flower-that-is-the-brand. That scent doesn't just express itself in the kind of pants they sell. Don't get me wrong, you like the pants and they fit you great, but it's the whole experience that keeps you reeled in. It emerges from the lighting, the decor, the background music, the way the sales associates speak… everything. Successful brands have a pervasive identity that attracts and locks in their target buyers.

The secret is passion. When the executives at the top of the food chain understand their product, not just what it does, but what it means then they can build a whole culture around their service. The marketing schemes all fall into place by themselves.

If you own an ecommerce website, you know conversions are key. You need to sell your products and services effectively. One way to do so is by using a technique called ecommerce merchandising. It is a method of using your website to tell a complete story about your company and its products. To do so, you need to make your website visually intriguing. Incorporating video testimonials is an excellent online visual merchandising technique. You can also increase sales by providing crisp, clear images of all of your products. Accompany those product images with clear product descriptions and group them in ways that encourage sales of multiple related products. Then visitors will become curious about multiple products and be more likely to make multi-item purchases.

Now we need to translate this into your small business website. All we're going to do is analyze some aspects of a great store and how to move that over to your site. This is especially important when using a third party to build your site for you. You need to know what you want and need in order to receive the product that you and your business deserve. Start with website builder reviews to find flexible solutions to implement these ideas.
  1. Stay Small
  2. Think of your online business as a boutique storefront. Some of the classiest places aren't flooded with products; rather they create a distinct line of select items and present them tastefully. So it's true: less is more. Don't be afraid if your company sells three items or offers one service. If you offer quality and present tastefully then your audience will stay focused all the way to checkout.
  3. Make it Worthwhile
  4. Have you noticed that many stores greet you with on-sale items right at the door? Why is that? It's done to make you feel like the store wants to be accommodating. The same is true about your site. Make the "offer they can't refuse" be the first thing they see.
  5. Pounce on Compulsions
  6. Every store keeps goodies at the checkout line. In the supermarket it's lighters and candy. At a clothing outlet it may be the brand's signature cologne. The rationale is that once the buyer is already pulling out the wallet – now's the time to squeeze them for some extra cash. When constructing your site, plant a special offer that only gets revealed at checkout. Your chances of landing some extra sales will skyrocket.
  7. Be Available
  8. A good company makes sure that you are greeted by a salesperson that is oh-so-eager to show you around. A really good company makes sure that the salesperson is well educated as to the brand's history and significance and has a detailed knowledge of the product. How does this translate into your site? Well, is your contact info easy to find? To you have a quick turnaround rate for answering inquiries? That would be one way. A second way of being available is creating and installing filters that narrow down product searches to better fit your customers' needs.
  9. Sell Something That You Love
  10. Excitement is totally contagious. The best salesman is the inventor himself. He knows the ins and outs of his creation. He created it out of a desperate need and he sees salvation resting in his product. As he describes all the mind-blowing nuances of his gadget, he has you drooling. You buy the gizmo. The same has to be true of your product. Do you describe it in a way that conveys your passion for what you sell? Do the images you use relay your product's soul?
Use these five amazing tips to transfer all of the winning qualities of a winning boutique store to your small business website and start making more sales today.
As you guys already know that Canonical has been working on mobile convergence from quite sometime now. Recently I was invited to the Ubuntu tablet press release and saw true convergence being done with new tablet (BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu edition) and phone (I think it was Nexus 4), and it was quite satisfactory that how things are going in the right direction.
As you know there are plenty of video editors available for other operating systems (Mac, Windows) but there isn't lack of best video editors for Unix/Linux and support wide variety of architecture (x86, amd64, x86_64, i64, sparc, hppa, ppc and xbox/x86.) but using the PPA you can only install for x86/x86_64/amd64 architectures. If you are into video editing and looking for open-source and free alternative for yourself then here is great video editing program "LiVES" for you.
Are you using Ubuntu from a long time and you really miss those old days? Sam Hewitt has forked Elementary OS Gtk theme and icons to make it look and feel like old Ubuntu 8.04. It's all about old school brown-y orange-y themes and gave it a name "Humanitary" theme & icons, Gtk theme made using neutral grey & brown palette and icons using a neutral palette. Since this theme is intended to use in Elementary OS which uses Pantheon[1] desktop but you can use it in Ubuntu or Linux Mint if you are using Gnome Shell, As I tested Gtk theme is not compatible with other desktops. Vertex and Masalla icons used in the following screenshots. You can use Unity Tweak ToolGnome-tweak-tool or Ubuntu-Tweak to change themes/icons

Do you like Ambiance theme but also like flat themes? Yosembiance is smoothed and slightly flattened version of Ubuntu default theme Ambiance and it is modified by Brain Sundman, he tried to make this theme more beautiful and he succeeded, the Ubuntu's default theme Ambiance is also beautiful there is no doubt about it. The initial release of this theme was in 2014 and with the passage of time Brain also made this theme available for newer Ubuntu versions. There is blue version too, if you don't want to stick with orange one then you can choose blue for your desktop. I added this theme to PPA for Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial/15.10 Wily/15.04 Vivid/14.04 Trusty, and this theme is not tested on Linux Mint but hopefully it will work just fine, you can give it a shot and let us know in the comment below. Vertex and Masalla icons used in the following screenshots. You can use Unity Tweak ToolGnome-tweak-tool or Ubuntu-Tweak to change themes/icons.

Like many other geeks, I love to buy stickers for my laptop and geeky wearable clothing for myself. Whenever I buy a new laptop whether it comes with Windows or not, in both cases I have to place a Linux OS sticker on my laptop, to fulfill my geeky needs. I usually order from different online sites because such stickers or wearable stuff is nearly impossible to find anywhere near.

I love when I see online store pops up and especially love when a store happens to sell products that I am interested in. A store (UnixStickers.com) that has been around for a while for the digital age to flock to in the interest of apparel, stickers and other creative collectibles. In past I did order some stickers from them to show my support to Linux and was very excited, again I ordered some stuff from them, this time I also choose some other stuff too beside Linux stickers, I will keep them aside for a bit.

Curlew is a multi-converter program that depends on ffmpeg/avconv/mencoder to perform its functionality. It is free, open source and easy to use rich format multimedia converter written in GTK3 and Python programming language.
The last stable update was back in mid of 2014, since this program highly depends on ffmpeg and libav which was removed from Ubuntu repositories then developer of this program stopped the development. Now ffmpeg and other tools are now available again in Ubuntu default repositories, so developer again started work on it and pushed the new update which works on latest Ubuntu versions. The GUI is redesigned and now has better features than old version.
There are way many audio players available for Linux and sometimes it's bit difficult to make a choice between them. Some people like to stick with distribution default audio player but many people always look forward to an alternative. We don't say which one is better, it all depends on player functionality and user choice.
Quod Libet is a GTK based audio player written in Python programming language, using Mutagen tagging library, it is cross-platform and available for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. Basically it is an audio management program, which offers several ways to manage and view your audio library and also support audio feeds. It can support libraries with tens of thousands of audio files. It also carries some additional features which should be in modern audio player: Unicode support, advanced tag editing, Replay Gain, podcasts & Internet radio, album art support and all major audio formats.
Another plus point of this player is that it has ability to edit metadata tag, which is not available in every player out there, and it has some advanced searching capabilities. Ex Falso is a program that uses the same tag editing back-end as Quod Libet, but isn't connected to an audio player. If you don't want to make a switch from your favorite audio player and just want something that can handle tagging, Ex Falso is for you.
If we talk about playlist then it can do better than any player because it can also make playlists based on regular expressions but don't worry if you don't know how regular expressions work, regular searches works too within this player. You can display and edit any tag you want in the file, for all the file formats it supports.

For our lab remote applications always were/are/will handy to manage our connection, I know there are many ways to manage your remote devices but some of them are complex and rest do not work well with all operating systems, once my professor said "Don't reinvent the wheel if it is already invented, just use what is available that fits your requirements and save time", well this debate could go long and I don't want to go into this discussion.
