Ubuntu 15.10 Wily could be exciting release for many users, since it has new application packages and features. Ubuntu team is heading towards great way by doing great work and impresses its user base, unlike previous releases this release got some new features and improvements. Unity 8 is not replaced yet and hopefully won't be in 16.04 either but still Unity 7.3.2 is much faster, responsive and many other things for release info checkout this post. It's been a tradition that whenever a new Ubuntu version come out people look forward to tweak it somehow to make their experience much better with Ubuntu, I am not trying to say Ubuntu isn't perfect 'for sure it is' but there are some other things to be done after fresh install and make it much better than any other OS available out there. Ubuntu team announced the availability of final version of Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf and all other flavors. Ubuntu 15.10 will be supported for 9 months for Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Core, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Kylin along with all other flavors, the final release of Ubuntu 15.10 Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core products. Wily Werewolf final version includes most recent versions of core set of packages, notable changes: Linux kernel 4.2.x which added support for recent AMD Radeon GPUs; Intel Broxton support; F2FS file-system encryption support; NV-DIMM support, Boot service: systemd, Unity 7.3.3 has had many bugs fixed and new features added, Compiz brought various improvements, Firefox 41, LibreOffice 5.0.1, Chromium 45, Gnome platform 3.16, Mate is updated to 1.10, Support for the new Steam Controller, Thunderbird 38.2.0, Rhythmbox 3.2.1, GTK+ 3.16.7, Gnome System Monitor 3.16, Terminal 3.16.2, Nautilus 3.14.2, Gedit 3.10.4, Mesa 11.0.x, Xorg Server 1.17.x, Pulseaudio is updated paving the way for a move to Bluez5 next release, and latest versions for other applications; For Ubuntu Server: OpenStack 2015.2.0 and so on.

The team has been hard at work through this cycle, introducing new features and fixing bugs.
Under the hood, there have been updates to many core packages, including a new 4.2-based kernel, a switch to gcc-5, and much more. Ubuntu Desktop has seen incremental improvements, with newer versions of GTK and Qt, updates to major packages like Firefox and LibreOffice, and stability improvements to Unity.
Ubuntu Server 15.10 includes the Liberty release of OpenStack, alongside deployment and management tools that save devops teams time when deploying distributed applications - whether on private clouds, public clouds, x86, ARM, or POWER servers, or on developer laptops. Several key server technologies, from MAAS to juju, have been updated to new upstream versions with a variety of new features."

Ubuntu 15.10, which is codenamed the Wily Werewolf, is currently penciled in to ship on 22nd October, 2015. The release date for Ubuntu 15.10 has now been firmed up as are the other development milestones leading up to the mid-October.
Ubuntu 15.10 will be exciting cycle for new developments given its status, a big focus on convergence and Unity 8 with Mir, better systemd integration, and many other changes planned for development over the next six months.

A biggest change for Ubuntu 15.10 Snappy version will be implemented and .deb based desktop maybe going away (link):
Our plan for 15.10 (which is still being finalized, and will be discussed in more depth at UOS in a couple of weeks) is to have a build based on Snappy Personal and so the current .deb based Desktop Next image will be going away and will be replaced with the new Snappy version.
But still deb based Ubuntu images will be available.

The schedule of the release of Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf with given dates are as follows:
  • June 25th - Alpha 1 (Not Public Release - opt-in)
  • July 30th - Alpha 2 (Not Public Release - opt-in)
  • August 27th - Beta 1 (Not Public Release - opt-in)
  • September 24th - Final Beta
  • October 22nd - Final Release
