ownCloud is a cloud hosting solution which can be deployed at home and using it locally or access it from anywhere. It functions similar to Dropbox/Google Drive and so on but with more functionality. It is open-source, free to use that means anyone can create a private server at home/office or for business. ownCloud also support online services like Google Drive, with online document editing, calendar and contact synchronization, and more.
Now you don't have to pay anyone in order to host your data because you store your data in your own server and access it using ownCloud from any device inside network and from anywhere in the world (you have to configure it). Its openness eschews enforced quotas on storage space or the number of connected clients, instead having hard limits (like on storage space or number of users) defined only by the physical capabilities of the server.

The ownCloud server is written in the PHP and JavaScript scripting languages. For remote access, it employs SabreDAV, an open-source WebDAV server. ownCloud is designed to work with several database management systems, including SQLite, MariaDB, MySQL, Oracle Database, MSSQL and PostgreSQL.
In order to synchronize files with their ownCloud server, desktop (For Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X) and mobile (Android and iOS) clients are available. Files and other data (such as calendars, contacts or bookmarks) can also be accessed using a web browser without any additional software. Any updates to files are pushed between all computers or mobile devices connected to a user's account. Access, Sync and Share your data, under your control. ownCloud provides access to your data through a web interface or WebDAV while providing a platform to view, sync and share across devices easily-all under your control. ownCloud's open architecture is extensible via a simple but powerful API for applications and plugins and works with any storage.

Using ownCloud mobile Apps you can browse all of your ownCloud synced files, create and edit new files, share these files and folders with co-workers, and keep the contents of those folders in sync across all of your devices. Simply copy a file into a directory on your server and ownCloud does the rest. Whether using a mobile device, a desktop, or the web client, ownCloud provides the ability to put the right files in the right hands at the right time on any device in one simple-to-use, secure, private and controlled solution.
